Mardi Himal Trek is an adventure to step feet in the beautiful part of Annapurna Region with a vista of Himalayas and exploration of the lush green forest and different atmosphere. Mardi Himal Trek begins in Kathmandu after your arrival. Mardi Himal is located to the east of the Annapurna Base camp virtually under the spectacular Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The Langtang Valley Trek, sometimes called “the valley of the glaciers” is in close proximity to Kathmandu which makes it a an easily accessible hiking destination. As the nickname implies, there are many glaciers at a low altitude which can easily be explored. The name Langtang comes from an ancient legend wherein a Tibetan Lama was searching for his yak (in Tibetan lang) and following (in Tibetan tang) it found this amazing valley.

 

This trek takes one close to Tibet, as the valley lies just south of that border. You will be able to learn much about the traditions and culture of the Tamang people who live in the region and how they share many of the same customs as the Tibetans. Trekking through a sub-tropical jungle, then a dense forest of oak, birch and pine, the valley opens out onto alpine meadows and yak pastures. Not too far from Jomsom, you find Muktinath, the famous pilgrimage site for Hindu as well as Buddhist. To Hindus, Muktinath is a sacred place of salvation. They believe that bathing in the waters here guarantees salvation after death. The Hindu god, Brahma, is said to have lit the eternal flames that burn at Muktinath.
To Buddhists, Muktinath is a place where the great sage Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) who brought Buddhism to Tibet, came to meditate.
The area is a perfect place to find fossilized ammonites, known locally as Shaligram, which are found all along the upper reaches of the Kali Gandaki.
This part of Nepal is inhabited by Gurungs and Magars in the lower regions of the Kali Gandaki, Thakalis around Jomsom and people with strong Tibetan roots, the Lopa, around Muktinath and up in Mustang.
