Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

  • Altitude: 1,460 m
  • Time: 7–8 hours drive
    You leave Kathmandu early and follow a long highway through hills and river valleys. Syabrubesi is a small town where many treks begin.

Day 2: Syabrubesi to Gatlang

  • Altitude: 2,200 m
  • Time: 5–6 hours
    The trail climbs gradually through forests and terraced fields. Gatlang is a traditional Tamang village with stone houses and nice views.

Day 3: Gatlang to Somdang

  • Altitude: 3,270 m
  • Time: 6–7 hours
    This is a steady climb through mixed forest and open ridges. You walk past Parvati Kunda, a small sacred lake. Somdang is quiet and open, surrounded by hills. The old ruby mine area is nearby.

Day 4: Somdang to Pangsang Pass Ridge

  • Altitude: 3,842 m
  • Time: 4–5 hours
    The climb to Pangsang Pass is slow and steady. From the top, you get wide views of Ganesh Himal and the surrounding valleys. You stay near the ridge or descend a bit depending on conditions.

Day 5: Pangsang to Tipling

  • Altitude: 2,100 m
  • Time: 5–6 hours
    A long downhill walk through open slopes and forest. Tipling is a large village with two main settlements and friendly locals.

Day 6: Tipling to Shertung and Chalish

  • Altitude: 1,875 m
  • Time: 3–4 hours
    A short day that lets you enjoy the culture. Shertung and Chalish are Gurung and Tamang villages known for warm hospitality. You can explore small trails, springs, and farm life.

Day 7: Chalish to Borang and Darkha Phedi

  • Altitude: 1,300 m
  • Time: 5–6 hours
    The trail moves through fields and small hamlets. It’s mostly downhill and easy. Darkha Phedi is the main exit point from the region.

Day 8: Darkha Phedi to Dhading Besi (drive)

  • Time: 4–5 hours
    A jeep ride takes you down rough mountain roads until you reach the district center.

Day 9: Dhading Besi to Kathmandu (drive)

  • Time: 3–4 hours
    A smooth ride back to the capital.

Trek Difficulty

This trek is moderate. The main challenge is the long climb to Pangsang Pass and the following descent. You don’t need technical skills, but you should be comfortable walking for several hours a day on uneven trails.

Accommodation and Food

Most stays are in homestays or simple lodges. Meals are home-cooked, usually dal bhat, noodles, potatoes, and local products. It’s a chance to eat with families and learn about their way of life.
